Sometimes Marco wonders why he even cares what happens to her. He takes her to the gym and the firing range so she can protect herself. She already knows her way around a gun thanks to her father who is a card carrying a member of the NRA.

Marco is your typical alpha male who is dead set on revenge for his family especially the daughter his sister left behind. During the investigation, he finds another cause to get involved in: falling in love with Feenie and keeping her safe.

A huge fan of the Tracers series I decided to try another one of her novels, skeptically thinking it wouldn't measure up. My mistake. Fantastic story!
STORY BRIEF
Feenie was a high school cheerleader who married the local football star and occupied herself with decorating magazines and charitable activities. She discovered her husband was having an affair. They divorced. Her husband came from a wealthy family and was able to hide his assets, so Feenie got less than normal. She got the house with no furniture and a car she sold because she needed the money. Now she works as a part time reporter for the local newspaper, doing fluff pieces. She accidentally sees Josh with one of his hidden assets, a boat, and Feenie starts spying on him to prove he has the boat. She has a good heart and a good attitude but is not street smart. She follows some bad guys, someone tries to kill her, and she flubs a number of things throughout the story. She's easy to follow, makes noise when she's supposed to be quiet, etc.

Marco was a cop who was framed for drug possession. He did not go to jail, but he lost his job. His sister Paloma was a cop investigating a drug smuggling group headed by Josh (Feenie's ex-husband). Josh or his people murdered her. Marco now works as a PI. For the past two years in his spare time, he has been searching for evidence concerning his sister's murder. He runs into Feenie while she is spying on her ex-husband. Marco doesn't want her involved, but she keeps getting in the way, and he saves her numerous times. Feenie starts to fall for Marco, but she fears he only wants her for what she knows about Josh.

REVIEWER'S OPINION
This was primarily a mystery, but there was a fair amount of romance involved. A lot of time was spent developing the relationship between Feenie and Marco. I was rooting for them to get together throughout. I enjoyed this book. The characters and events kept me interested, and I wanted to keep reading. There were many times I chuckled at unexpected remarks. It was a worthwhile read.

To date, the author has published four books (two series with two books each). This is book 1 of the first series. I recommend reading this book before reading the sequel "One Wrong Step." CAUTION SPOILERS
I would have liked an epilogue to answer some questions. Someone planted drugs on Marco's property causing him to lose his job as a cop. Who were the bad guys who did this? I wanted to see the bad cops punished and Marco's reputation restored. I also wanted to see what was going to happen with Josh. What evidence was presented and what would put him in jail. What happened to the tape Robert had? What about Josh's father? Did Feenie ever get her boat back? None of these questions were answered in this book or in the sequel "One Wrong Step." However, the sequel did answer some additional Robert questions. The sequel is the story of Robert, Cecelia and the reporter John.
This is my first laura griffin book. I stumbled upon this by looking for another author and read the reviews and decided to give this a try. This book has it all. Suspense. Romance. Comedy. I couldn't put the book down. It made you keep turning the pages. I'm so glad I found another great author to read and to recommend to my other friends.

Since I believe this is Ms. Griffin's first novel, there are reviews describing the story line so I won't go there. I started reading her books with the Tracer's series and am now finishing up reading her prior novels. These are just as good as the newer ones. Simply, I love Laura Griffin books. Period. I totally recommend her to anyone looking for page turning suspense, great characters and sizzling romance. She is one of the few authors whose books I can't put down and keep them on my re-read shelf.
I really enjoyed this thriller. The story begins with the murder of a police officer Paloma Juarez and the breakup of a marriage. The story resumes two years later when the victim's brother is on a mission to find out what happened to his sister. Police corruption, international drug trade and sex trade are in the mix. In the middle of all this is the heroine Feenie, she was betrayed by her then husband, and then accidentally finds out that he is involved in something illegal. Somehow her path crosses with Marco Juarez in his investigation of his sister's murder and many things happen. Romance is also in the mix between Feenie and Marco, but I won't spoil the end. A good read definitively!
